Cobblestone Bridge

I had heard that one of the many bridges along the carriage trails in Acadia National Park was constructed of cobblestones so I set out to find it while visiting last Autumn. The network of carriage trails is amazing in and of itself with stone faced bridges here and there along them, constructed from 1913 to 1940 as a vision of philanthropist John D. Rockafeller Jr. Rockafeller financed 16 of the 17 bridges in the park and designed the carriage roads to move along the natural contours of the landscape. Cobblestone Bridge is a short walk from Jordan Pond. Inquire at the information desk next to theĀ Jordan Pond House restaurant for directions.
